The Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) to deliver targeted vocational training programs addressing critical skills gaps in the Solomon Islands workforce.
The partnership, supported by the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, will provide internationally recognized qualifications in construction, tourism and hospitality, and business administration. The three-year program aims to train over 500 Solomon Islanders, with a focus on women and youth participation.
SICCI Board Chairman, Mr. Jay Bartlett, emphasized the importance of the initiative: 'Our members consistently identify skills shortages as a major constraint to business growth. This partnership directly addresses that challenge by providing pathways to quality training that meets industry standards.' The first cohort of trainees will commence studies in March 2026, with courses delivered at the APTC campus in Honiara and through workplace-based training with participating SICCI member businesses.
